The Board of Trustees of the CA4WDC Conservation and Education Foundation at the Board meeting of August 22, 2010 voted to suspend the Voyagers Program. A working group of Trustees is working to create a new educational program for children. All funds that have been donated to the Voyagers program will remain in the account.
The Board made this decision reluctantly, but the existing program has not been working well for the last couple of years. The decision to suspend the program is to allow everyone interested to step-up and reconsider the direction of the Voyagers and what educational programs are needed for our members’ children for a long-lasting and viable program.
Anyone having ideas or input regarding the Voyagers should contact Chris Storm,

To the Membership of CA4WDC, Inc. From Paula Johnson, State Treasurer August 20, 2010
This is a hard letter to write; but it is something I need to do. I am well and truly honored to be the CA4WDC, Inc. State Treasurer but I am going to be resigning as of February 15, 2011, just prior to convention.
I volunteered to complete a term of a treasurer who stepped down in 2004 (if I remember the year correctly). Since then I have been able to commit my time to the position, and feel that I have done that adequately. It does take a chunk of time through out the year (monthly reports and duties) and commits me to not only a full weekend four times a year (BOD meetings) but at least a full week or two of work in the June/July area (rollover of the fiscal year). For six years I have been able to do this, but my time is being committed to other things now. My mother-in-law has a progressive disease (Alzheimer’s) and is taking more and more of my ‘other’ time. I have also started a new business that will require time to promote and expand. So I find myself with other commitments that have to take priority.

This year's event will be September 25, 2010
California Coastal Cleanup Day is the premier volunteer event focused on the marine environment in the country. In 2009, more than 80,600 volunteers worked together to collect more than 1,300,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes, and waterways. California Coastal Cleanup Day has been hailed by the Guinness Book of World Records as "the largest garbage collection" (1993). Since the program started in 1985, over 800,000 Californians have removed more than 14 million pounds of debris from our state's shorelines and coast. When combined with the International Coastal Cleanup, organized by The Ocean Conservancy and taking place on the same day, California Coastal Cleanup Day becomes part of one of the largest volunteer events of the year.
